The TERMIS-AP Council would like to announce the solicitation of proposals to host the 2019 TERMIS-AP Chapter Conference.

If you are interested in hosting the 2019 TERMIS-AP conference, please submit your request to Sarah Wilburn at swilburn@termis.org. You will be provided with a meeting host form that asks detailed questions about the meeting organizers, location/venue, program, and meeting financials. When proposals are submitted, they are reviewed and selected and reviewed by the TERMIS-AP Council.

The deadline for submitting proposals for the 2019 TERMIS-AP conference is Monday, August 1, 2016.

Foundation of TERMIS-AP Chapter

In July 2005, the TERMIS-AP Chapter was established at the Catholic University of Korea, Medical School, Seoul. Representatives from countries within the Asian-Pacific region invited to attend were: Prof. Teruo Okano (Japan), Asst. Prof. Jan-Thorsten Schantz (Singapore), Prof. Gin-Ho Hsiue (Chinese, Taipei), Prof. Ahnond Buynyaratvej (Thailand), Prof. Geoff McKeller (Australia), Prof. Ruszymah Bt Hj Idrus (Malaysia), Prof. Yilin Cao and Wei Liu (China), Prof. Minoru Ueda (Former President of ATES), Prof. Allan J. Russell (President of TERMIS), and Prof. Jöns Hilborn (President-Elect of TERMIS).

Term of Andy Hu (Program Chair for Taiwan Meeting) is 2016 and then Andy's term will be automatically turned the Chair/Program Chair of TERMIS-AP 2019 Meeting for 2017~2019. Term of Liu Wei is 2016~2017 and then Liu's term will be automatically turned the Chair/Program Chair of TERMIS-AP 2020 Meeting Place for 2018~2020.

TERMIS-Asia Pacific Awards Program

The TERMIS-AP Council, for the first time, would like to announce the 2016 TERMIS-AP Award Program where the recipients will be honored at the Awards Ceremony on September 2016 at the TERMIS-AP Chapter Meeting in New Taipei, Taiwan.

Nominations for the TERMIS-AP award should be submitted to Sarah Wilburn, TERMIS Administrator, by 29th February 2016. The call for nominations will be announced prior to the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference. The criteria for submitting a nomination must be followed in order for the nomination to be accepted. The criteria for each award were initially defined by the chair in this document and further, will be submitted to the TERMIS-AP council for review and approval. The awardees will be selected by the TERMIS-AP Awards Committee.

As approved unanimously by the TERMIS-AP Council the following awards and recognitions will be annually given by the TERMIS-AP Chapter Meeting and TERMIS World Congress:

  • Global Excellence in TERM Award (from 2018 TERMIS WC Kyoto) ,
  • Excellence Achievement Award (from 2016 TERMIS AP Taiwan),
  • Outstanding Scientist Award (from 2016 TERMIS AP Taiwan),
  • Young Scholar Award (from 2017 TERMIS AP Nantong),
  • Best TERM Paper Award (from 2017 TERMIS AP Nantong), and
  • Creative Invention and Impact Award (from 2017 TERMIS AP Nantong).

The awardees will be presented annually with their award at the TERMIS-AP Chapter Meeting that will be held in AP countries in September.

Guidelines

  • Self-nomination is not permitted.
  • All the awardees will be selected by the TERMIS-AP Awards Committee and then approve by AP Council Members.
  • All nominated candidates must be Members of the TERMIS-AP Chapter.
  • Recommendation Letters by members of the Awards Committee are not acceptable.

Global Excellence in TERM Award

The Global Excellence in TERM Award is aimed to acknowledge a researcher/scientist who has globally contributed to the arena of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine with valuable outputs of clear professional excellence in their area, and whose work has influenced greatly for establishment and development of TERM. This award is aimed to provide recognition to the researcher with outstanding contributions and professional excellence achieved in the TERM field such as scientists, clinicians, educators and/or contributors to TERMIS activities. The awardee must have a proven record of excellence and an outstanding international recognition in the TERM arena. There should be a significant and profound evidence of the awardee's major contributions towards development of TERM field. The person should have an international research exposure and worked in different (TEMIS-AM, TERMIS-EU, TERMIS-AP and SYIS) chapter's geographical area or should have collaborations with different Chapter's research groups. The person can be nominated by a TERMIS member or may apply for the award. That person must provide a summary of the nominee's achievements, three (3) letters of recommendation, and the nominee's curriculum vitae. Further, the awardee will be asked to write a one page overview of their career and accomplishment that may be considered for publication in the journal, Tissue Engineering. The award will be presented from 2018 TERMIS WC Kyoto annually.

The Global Excellence in TERM Awardee will be presented annually with the following from TERMIS-AP:

  • An invitation to present a Plenary Award Lecture in the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • An honorarium of $(TBA)
  • Reimbursement up to $ (TBA) towards travel expenses (airfare/hotel) to attend the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • Complimentary registration to the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • A plaque

The TERMIS-AP Awards Committee must receive the following information regarding the nominee:

  • Three (3) recommendation letters
  • One-page summary of their contribution and accomplishment

Excellence Achievement Award

The Excellence Achievement Award has been established to recognize a researcher who has made continuous and landmark contributions to the tissue engineering and regenerative medicine field. The award will be acknowledged to an individual, whose work has immensely impacted, including sustained remarkable contribution to the literature and assisted with establishment of the TERM field. This award is aimed to provide recognition to the researcher with outstanding contributions and professional excellence achieved in TERM arena, such as scientists, clinicians, educators and/or contributors to TERMIS activities. The person must have worked most of his career in the TERMIS-AP geographical area, and should be nominated by a member of TERMIS-AP. That person must provide a summary of the nominee's achievement(s), three (3) letters of recommendation, and the nominee's curriculum vitae. Further, the awardee will be asked to write a one page overview of their career and accomplishment that may be considered for publication in the journal, Tissue Engineering.

The Excellence Achievement Awardee will be presented annually with the following from TERMIS-AP:

  • An invitation to present a Plenary Award Lecture in the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • An honorarium of $(TBA)

Outstanding Scientist Award

The Outstanding Scientist Award aims at the researcher's significant contributions to the TERM field. The nominated persons must have obtained their terminal degree 10 years or greater from the time of award. The nominee should be actively involved in the TERM field with well-recognized achievements within the community. To be considered for this award, the person must be a TERMIS-AP member, and may apply for the award or be nominated by a TERMIS-AP member.

The Outstanding Scientist Awardee will be presented annually with the following from TERMIS-AP:

  • An invitation to speak during a plenary session in the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • An honorarium of $(TBA)
  • Reimbursement up to $(TBA) towards travel expenses (airfare/hotel) for attending the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • Complimentary registration to the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • A plaque

The TERMIS-AP Awards Committee must receive the following information regarding the nominee:

  • One-page summary of contributions

Young Scholar Award

The Young Scholar Award aims for an individual with significant and consistent achievements in the TERM field, showing a clear evidence of their growing career. The person will be selected based on their publications and citations of the manuscripts focused within a specific research area. The person must have been awarded their terminal degree more than 2 and less than 10 years prior to the deadline of the call. To be considered for this award, the person must be a TERMIS-AP member, and may apply or be nominated by a TERMIS-AP member.

The Young Scholar Awardee will be presented annually with the following from TERMIS-AP:

  • An Invitation to present their research work during a plenary session at the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • An honorarium of $(TBA)
  • Reimbursement up to $(TBA) towards travel expenses (airfare/hotel) for attending the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • Complimentary registration to the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • A certificate

The TERMIS-AP Awards Committee must receive the following information regarding the nominee:

  • List of published papers
  • Three (3) recommendation letters
  • Confirmation of attendance to accept the award at the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference

Best TERM Paper Award

The Best TERM Paper Award will be presented to a student/researcher (undergraduate/graduate/ postdoc) with achieved outstanding research accomplishments in the TERM field. The individual will be selected based on non-published manuscript submitted with the nomination and must be a member of TERMIS-AP. The award manuscript will be published in the Journal, Tissue Engineering, Part A or Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine or Equivalent Journal with appropriate recognition. The manuscript must be original work; not a review. To be considered, the individual must be nominated by a TERMIS-AP member.

The Best TERM Paper Awardee will be presented annually with the following from TERMIS-AP:

  • An honorarium of $(TBA)
  • Reimbursement up to $(TBA) to be used towards travel expenses (airfare/hotel) for attending the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • Complimentary registration to the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • A certificate

Creative Invention and Impact Award

The Creative Invention and Impact Award aims to recognize successful applications of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine leading to the development of relevant products/therapies/technologies which will ultimately benefit the patients. This award can be recognized either an individual or a team. The award can be presented for an existing product/ therapies/technology or for a newly developed product/ therapies/technology, launched in the last 5 year. To be considered, the individual or team may apply or be nominated by a TERMIS-AP member.

The Creative Invention and Impact Awardee will be presented annually with the following from TERMIS-AP:

  • An invitation to speak during a plenary session in the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • An honorarium of $(TBA)
  • Reimbursement up to $(TBA) towards travel expenses (airfare/hotel) for attending the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • Complimentary registration to the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
  • A certificate

The TERMIS-AP Awards Committee must receive the following information regarding the nominee:

  • Information on the product or technology
  • List of patents (accepted and applied)
  • Three (3) recommendation letters
  • Any additional relevant information about the product or technology i.e., impact, revenues, and broad applicability
  • Confirmation of attendance to accept the award at the TERMIS-AP Annual Conference
