BioE® is a biotechnology company dedicated to providing enabling, accessible tools for researchers interested in harnessing the potential of adult stem cells. The company's lead product, the Multi-Lineage Progenitor CellTM (MLPCTM), is a genetically normal, multi-potent, clonal cell isolated from umbilical cord blood which could be used for development pathway analysis, stem cell research and regenerative medicine.

Bose Corporation's ElectroForceTM Systems Group manufactures ElectroForceTM test instruments for materials research and medical device development using proprietary linear motor technology. Bose offers instruments for characterization of soft tissue, bones, medical devices, biomaterials, stents, endovascular grafts, cardiovascular devices and many types of viscoelastic engineered materials.

For researchers involved in tissue engineering, Bose has introduced a new multi-axial test instrument to provide characterization of biomaterials and tissues in a biological environment. The ElectroForce BioDynamicTM test instrument provides conditioning and characterization of a variety of specimens, including biomaterials, acellular and cell-seeded scaffolds, native tissue samples and tissue-engineered constructs. Since the BioDynamic test instrument can be used to simulate in vivo conditions for the culture and testing of three-dimensional samples, it can be a valuable tool to bridge the gap between basic in vitro exploratory studies in culture dishes and in vivo animal experiments. For more information visit our web site at www.bose-electroforce.com.

The Rotary Cell Culture System is the only device that efficiently creates an environment that enables extremely fragile cell cultures and co-cultures of human and animal cell to grow into complex, sophisticated 3-D models in vitro. The cultures mimic the structure and function of their parental tissue. More information on www.cellon.lu.

Dunn Labortechnik is a privately owned German company in its 25th year.and as European Distributor of Flexcell International, is exhibiting Flexcell's equipment as this year's TERMIS in London.

Flexcell specializes for more than 20 years in designing and manufacturing products to service the Cytomechanics marketplace.

On show will be tension, compression and fluid shear systems for cell culturing. These systems stress cells in culture simulating the in vivo environment. The equipment has broad applications in the biomedical research field since strain, compression, or fluid flow have been found to induce biochemical changes in cells derived from a variety of tissues including cardiac, skeletal and smooth muscle, lung, vascular endothelium, skin, tendon, ligament, cartilage and bone.

KARGER is a leading international publisher of books and journals in basic and medical sciences. A publication of particular interest to the TERMIS participants is CELLS TISSUES ORGANS (www.karger.com/cto), journal of cell and developmental biology, tissue engineering, and in vitro systems. CELLS TISSUES ORGANS aims at bridging the gap between cell biology and developmental biology and the emerging fiels of regenerative medicine (stem cell biology, tissue engineering, artificial organs, in vitro systems and transplantation biology). In the section 'Patent Watch', new patent submissions and patents granted are listed and briefly described. Special topic issues, entire issues of the journal devoted to a single research topic within the range of interests of the journal, are published several times a year.
Be sure to pick up a free sample copy.

Mary Ann Liebert, Inc., is a privately held, fully integrated media company that publishes authoritative peer-reviewed journals in new and promising areas of science and biomedical research, including Tissue Engineering, the official Journal of TERMIS-impact factor 3.725 Other publications include, Human Gene Therapy, Stem Cells and Development, Cloning and Stem Cells, and Genetic Engineering & Biotechnology News. A complete list of the firm's 60 journals, books, and newsmagazines is available at www.liebertpub.com.

Created in 1992, TBF is authorized as a "Tissue Bank" and "Cell TBF" is a "tissue and cells establishment" based in Lyon (France) and ISO 9001 certified. Its first activity is the processing of human bone tissues for clinical use. TBF is however involved in research since 1997, with the development of an innovative hydrogel for cell cultures. Of vegetal origin, GelForCel® can be associated to drugs, is adapted for several cell lines and delivered sterile. It enables excellent cells distribution and differentiation in the various shapes obtained by its interesting moulding properties. A phase II clinical trial, conducted with autologous chondrocytes in this gel, also showed very satisfying results and 2 Phase III comparative studies have now been started. A real expertise in cell culture for therapeutical tissue engineering has been reached with optimally safe environment (GMP and GLP facilities) and controls before implantation. Other research projects are oriented toward meniscal tissues and bone using autologous stem cells from adipose tissue.
