For the first time in the history of a meeting of the Tissue Engineering Regenerative Medicine International Society, an Industry-Academia forum promoting Better Collaboration for Engineering Better Health will be featured. Its mission statement focuses on the need for developing a common language using the infrastructure of a common goal.

In addressing this aspect, the forum has been organized in two consecutive sections:

  1. (a) Surveying the Landscape of Tissue Engineering Commercialization The first part of the forum will focus on the shared perspectives from prominent academic, industry, venture, and regulatory speakers with the intent of presenting a comprehensive image of the commercialization potential for regenerative medicine technologies. Each topic will be addressed by academic as well as industry/venture/regulatory counterparts to allow different perspective being shared and joint directions being developed.
  2. (b) Lessons Learned from Start-Ups/SME's in Regenerative Medicine. During the second part of the forum, the four fundamental clinical specialties of regenerative medicine technology development (musculoskeletal - bone, musculoskeletal - cartilage/meniscus/intervertebral disc, cardiovascular and neuro, and other soft tissues - skin and breast, inflammation and immune disease) will be addressed, providing an opportunity to academic scientists representing those fields to interact with their industry counterparts in discussing translational aspects of their research, sharing strategic technology/product development, and understanding product development, regulatory, and commercialization obstacles in bringing a specific technology to the market. Each session will provide a highly interactive environment during which concrete questions/problems voiced by the audience will be addressed by the panel.
