Society and Non-Academic Organisation Symposium Proposal Rules, Regulations and Guidelines

National and international societies, Foundations and workgroups with purposes related to the TERMIS society aims are welcome to submit a symposium proposal. Symposia proposals with educational, career development and societal impact are welcomed.

Symposia Format

The Society symposia will have a format with a keynote speaker and up to three additional invited speakers and a minimum of 10 minutes discussion (90 minutes symposium in total).  The society can divide the 80 mins speaking time for the 4 presenters as they desire.

In case of a Double symposium proposal (two back-to-back 90 min sessions), and additional keynote speaker and up to 3 additional invited speakers are possible.

If desired, the format can also be a keynote speaker with additional talks selected from submitted abstracts by the symposium organizers. The symposia organizers will be asked to review submitted abstracts for their symposium session.

Each symposium should have a proposer who will also be responsible for selection and confirmation of the keynote/invited speakers. The proposer should be active as either the Chair or Co-Chair (the co-chair should be a young investigator and if the proposer does not know one in the field, this can be left blank for the SYIS committee to suggest one). In this case Young Investigators defined as persons who are either full-time graduates (PhD or Masters) or have been awarded their doctoral degree within the past 3 years and who are not holding an appointment as a faculty or academic staff in a university/research institute.

Due to budget constraints, TERMIS EU 2020 will not provide financial support to symposium chairs and keynote/invited speakers, who will all be expected to pay for registration to the conference. The Symposium Organisers are encouraged to find sponsors to support registration and/or travel of the speakers/organisers. Sponsors will be able to promote their company by way of advertising material as part of the symposium. For the society symposia, we highly recommend the society helps with the sponsorship of their keynote and invited speakers.

TERMIS EU 2020 retains the right to merge similar symposium proposals or to cancel a symposium, if a critical number of abstracts is not received.

Invited speakers must be independent principal investigators from academia, industry, clinical or governmental organisation.

The symposium chairs confirm that they will register and pay to attend the conference and chair the symposium, should it be accepted. All symposium participants must register and pay to attend the conference.

Only one podium presentation is allowed per registered participant.

Symposia Evaluation Criteria

We expect the symposia to be highly competitive. The society symposia proposals will be evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. relevance to the conference theme ‘Broadening the Targets and Approaches for Regenerative Medicine'
  2. current scientific impact of the symposium theme proposed
  3. educational value

Standard Symposium Proposal Rules, Regulations and Guidelines

Symposia Format

The standard symposia will have a format with a keynote speaker (30-minute slot) with the remaining slots comprising shorter talks (individual duration to be confirmed; 90 minutes symposium in total).  In case of a Double symposium proposal (two back-to-back 90 min sessions) a second keynote speaker may be proposed.

Additional speakers will be identified from submitted abstract and symposia organizers will be asked to review submitted abstracts for their symposium session.

However, if desired, the format can also be a keynote speaker with additional talks directly invited by the symposium organizers. The symposium organisers take responsibility for securing relevant speakers who will be reviewed by the conference organisers prior to final acceptance. Keynote/invited speakers must be independent principal investigators from academia, industry, clinical or governmental organisation.

TERMIS EU 2020 retains the right to merge similar symposium proposals or to cancel a symposium, if a critical number of abstracts is not received. Therefore, symposium organizers are encouraged to actively promote their session during the abstract submission stage. The committee also expects a diversity of the groups represented in the final choice of abstracts. If the symposium is cancelled the abstracts will be moved to a general session and the abstracts ranked accordingly.

The proposer should be active as either the Chair or Co-Chair (the co-chair should be a young investigator and if the proposer does not know one in the field, this can be left blank for the SYIS committee to suggest one). In this case Young Investigators are defined as persons who are either full-time graduates (PhD or Masters) or have been awarded their doctoral degree within the past 3 years and who are not holding an appointment as a faculty or academic staff in a university/research institute.
